BRINGING SIAMESE ROSEWOOD BACK TO QUANG TRI’S FORESTS
Recently, Center for Nature Conservation and Development (CCD), in collaboration with the People’s Committee of Cam Lo commune, Quang Tri province, and local communities, planted 8,000 siamese rosewood trees (Dalbergia cochinchinensis) across 40 hectares of degraded forest in Mai Loc village. The restoration site is located in the buffer zone of Dakrong Nature Reserve.

Community members have been directly involved throughout the restoration process - from raising seedlings and managing the nursery to planting Siamese rosewood in its natural habitat. Through these activities, they have gained practical knowledge and skills in forest protection, developed a better understanding of the role forests play in their lives, and learned about sustainable forest management practices.

In the coming time, local communities will continue planting and caring for Siamese rosewood in forests placed under community management. These efforts will not only help restore populations of this threatened timber species but also generate additional income, reduce local dependence on forest resources, mitigate the impacts of natural disasters, and strengthen the green corridor extending from the Lao border towards eastern Viet Nam.
