People in rural and mountainous areas, especially ethnic minorities, often face difficulties in

accessing information, markets, public services, education, and livelihood improvement opportunities. The poor are the most heavily impacted by economic shifts, climate change, and diseases. They also have a high rate of dependence on natural resources, such as the exploitation and hunting of wild fauna and flora, as well as

the extraction of other natural resources. This is one of the root causes leading to the degradation of

natural ecosystems due to overuse and overexploitation. If their livelihoods remain unstable and unimproved, this dependence will intensify, posing a major obstacle to both poverty reduction and the
sustainable management of resources, nature protection, and biodiversity conservation.

CCD prioritizes supporting disadvantaged communities, especially those living near nature reserves,

national parks, heritage sites, and biosphere reserves, through training, capacity building, and equipping

local people with the knowledge and tools needed to access job opportunities and new livelihoods.

These support initiatives will help communities secure employment and increase their income to escape poverty, thereby reducing their reliance on natural resource extraction, enhancing their resilience to

climate change, and achieving sustainable development.
