Vietnam has more than 200 protected areas, including terrestrial, wetland, and marine protected areas, managed under various models. CCD actively supports these sites by strengthening staff capacity; conducting research and monitoring of key ecosystems and species; restoring threatened ecosystems and species; and promoting effective community participation in resource management and protection.

In addition, CCD assists in developing proposals for upgrading and expanding protected areas;
assessing the impacts of development activities on ecosystems; and preparing periodic reports
and assessments for biosphere reserves, Ramsar sites, and natural heritage areas in accordance with
international requirements and standards.
